I am sure there are many people out there that always wonder "what does a rattery look like?" "How does this breeder keep their cages?" "I wonder if they have good cage decorating ideas"?" I know I have, and I always wonder how clean other ratteries are (if I don't know them personally). I myself clean my whole rattery EVERY Wednesday, its my day off and I don't go hang out with friends, go to the movies, go shopping, no I stay home and thoroughly clean all my cages, and the whole room. Every other week I take the cages apart and give them a good scrubbing in the bathtub, washing everything I can with soap and water and disinfectant. At this time I change all hammocks, and everything in the cage. On the off weeks, I take all the ratties out of the cages and then wipe the cages down with baby wipes and a disinfectant spray on a towel, I wash all the litter boxes, bowls and houses at this time as well and give all new hammocks and bedding. Usually on Saturday or Sunday afternoons I change out the hammocks again, and wipe the cages again with a baby wipe and put new litter in the litter boxes. Sometimes they get more hammocks then usual, because I just feel like it at the time! I vaccum around the cages every other day as well. The rats cages sit on sheets to not stain the carpet more then it already is from not using them before (and trust me, if you can, get hardwood or vinyl floors!). Behind the cages there are shower curtains, so they are easier to clean on cleaning day. One wall is dedicated to my show ribbons (not pictured). Pictures taken November 17th, 2007 |
